A secondary school built inside a university, and shaped by it.
A unique educational institution located on one of Africa's largest university campuses, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
Demonstration Secondary School was established on the main campus of Ahmadu Bello University, Samaru, as the teaching-practice school of the Faculty of Education. Trainee teachers observe and teach here under supervision, which means our classrooms are watched more closely than most.
The school runs the full Nigerian secondary curriculum: JSS1 to JSS3 leading to the BECE, and SSS1 to SSS3 in science, arts and commercial streams leading to WAEC and NECO. The academic year runs across three terms.
Boarding and day places are both offered across the Kongo and Samaru campuses, and every student belongs to one of the competing houses.
What the school stands for
The School hopes to ensure that a conducive learning environment is created whereby staff and students are given the freedom to exercise their functions. It will also ensure that all rules and regulations for the maintenance of law and order are properly observed.
The mission of Demonstration Secondary School is to ensure proper teaching and learning and the dissemination of knowledge. The School administration must establish a conducive atmosphere for the proper actualisation of its goals in order to meet the challenges of the nation.
“It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to Demonstration Secondary School, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.”
As the Principal, I am highly impressed by the commitment of the University Management, parents and staff to the provision of an excellent and all-embracing education for our students. The current leadership appreciates the spirit of teamwork among teachers and students aimed at promoting academic achievement among our students. Religious, cultural, sporting and other extra-curricular activities are encouraged among students in order to equip them with the academic and physical skills necessary for self-actualisation, accomplishment and nation building.
Necessary steps are put in place to ensure that students are properly trained, devoid of any tendency to engage in any form of malpractice or other social vices. With a long and rewarding history of academic excellence, the School assures parents and the larger community that the necessary personnel and facilities are on ground to ensure the security, well-being and happiness of each and every student of the School.
Thank you so much, and God bless.
